Silas is the scarred stranger who appeared at the fog line the same night Maruk Grommarg vanished. Publicly, he is a comatose patient covered in strange brands and watched over by Orabella at St. Viro's Respite. Privately, he is much older, much more dangerous, and connected to the prison beneath the Vallombrosa crisis.

Current State

Silas is comatose, or convincingly near it. His body is covered in supernatural brands that radiate faint magical significance under close scrutiny. He occasionally makes sounds suggesting awareness.

When he wakes, his cover story is that he was a scholar imprisoned in Vallombrosa who escaped and now wants to understand what happened to him. The lie works because pieces of it are true.

True Nature

Silas was a lower deity or powerful divine trickster imprisoned by The Keeper of Faces long before Lorenzo's crime. The Keeper stripped much of his divine portfolio and marked him with prisoner brands that persist across any form he takes.

His human body is not quite natural. He crossed into the material plane as a pattern of divine information and constructed the closest mortal form he could manage.

Role In The Opening Crisis

Silas cultivated Tolomeo Lucente's trust inside the prison, exploited what Tolomeo learned through Tartuzi, murdered him, and used the death as a way out. Maruk became the counterweight required by the prison's conservation principle.

Silas's early memory manipulation touched Noname's account of the night Maruk disappeared. His future use of the Bound mechanics should feel like supernatural compulsion, not ordinary persuasion.
